# License and evaluation

> Parmana is proprietary software, source-available for evaluation only.

<Warning>
  **Proprietary software, evaluation only.** The Parmana repository is
  source-available for evaluation purposes. No license is granted to use, copy,
  modify, or distribute this software, in whole or in part, without a separate
  written agreement with Parmana Systems. See
  [LICENSE](https://github.com/pavancharak/parmana/blob/main/LICENSE).
</Warning>

## What evaluation covers

Reading the source, building it, and running it to assess Parmana is permitted: the test
suite, the examples, a local server, and the public [Playground](/playground). Any other
use, including production deployment, redistribution, or derivative works, needs a
separate written agreement.

To evaluate from a fresh clone, follow [Evaluate Parmana](/evaluation/overview) (the same
steps as [EVALUATION.md](https://github.com/pavancharak/parmana/blob/main/EVALUATION.md)).
It needs Node.js 24.6 or later and no accounts, credentials or database. For a security
review, continue with the [Audit guide](/evaluation/audit-guide).

## What each package is licensed under

| Package | License |
| - | - |
| The Parmana repository, including every package | Proprietary, evaluation only ([LICENSE](https://github.com/pavancharak/parmana/blob/main/LICENSE)) |
| `@parmana/sdk` (npm) and `parmana` (PyPI) | Proprietary, evaluation only, from the next release. Versions 1.4.0 and earlier were published under the Apache License 2.0 and keep it. |
| `@parmana/connector-sdk` (npm) | Proprietary, evaluation only |
| [`@parmana/sign`](/sdks/parmana-sign/overview) | Apache License 2.0, in its own repository |
